Metis Design Corporation (MDC) is a technical consulting firm that focuses on mechanical design, custom sensor systems and lean enterprise solutions. Mechanical Design - The extensive resources and expertise at MDC afford clients the convenience of turn-key mechanical design. Using industry standard tools such as SolidWorks®, Pro/Engineer™, CosmosWorks® and ANSYS®, designs are optimized to meet customer needs, finding a balance between aesthetics, cost and performance. Custom Sensor Systems - CSS is a unique service providing an alternative to commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) instrumentation. CSS engineers employ their diverse knowledge of sensors, data acquisition, communications, automation and signal processing to deliver client-owned solutions for the most difficult sensing applications. Each challenge is distilled to its fundamental parameters to optimize form-factor, weight and cost without sacrificing desired functionality. These devices can be ruggedly packaged for harsh environments, and embedded codes can be customized for PC or PDA deployment.

Lean Enterprise Solutions - In collaboration with the Lean Aerospace Initiative (LAI), MDC has developed tools for implementing lean process improvements in challenging environments.  MDC has refined LAI's Lean Enterprise Value Simulation into a powerful modular table-top simulation, which serves as the core for customized active learning experiences, from basic courses to advanced "black-belt" training.  MDC has created several tools for lean engineering, including guides to product development, value stream mapping and organizational transformation. MDC is working with major aerospace companies to design and implement training, team-building, and transformation "kick-start" events.   MDC has also developed advanced architecting methods for conceptual design of complex systems and systems-of-systems.
