Architectural Products
Plastics and plastic composites offer unique advantages in many
industries. One field that could benefit significantly from reinforced
plastic materials is construction. Metis Design is currently developing
lightweight composite architectural products that fulfill the same
structural requirements as their concrete and metal counterparts.
Reductions in component weight and volume can reduce shipping and
installation costs dramatically. If plastic components were utilized,
a few men, in a matter of days, could install projects that currently
require a large crew, multiple cranes and weeks to complete.
Modular system design allows for mass customization of products.
Individual components can be manufactured in bulk, reducing per
piece cost. Various standard sizes combined with connectors allow
components to be assembled in almost any configuration. Because
the products are molded, colors, patterns and textures can be added
during the manufacturing process, eliminating the need for secondary
processes such as paint or other coatings that can wear away or
be scratched off. Plastic composites are innately resistant to moisture
and UV, making them extremely durable and ideal for outdoor applications.
These products are an exciting new application for composites and
MDC is poised to bring these novel components into the architectural
market. If you are interested in learning more about these products
or have an application you would like to discuss, please contact
MDC.
