One of Metis Design's niche areas is in complex structural design. MDC has performed several dozen structural design optimization and analysis projects, ranging from shipping pallets to transformer boxes and radomes. By utilizing 3D modeling in conjunction with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), MDC has optimized these designs to achieve aggressive loading requirements while optimizing the designs for weight and cost.

MDC's mechanical design projects have been manufactured from a variety of materials, including traditional metals, shape memory alloys, unreinforced and reinforced thermosets and thermoplastics, structural foam, sheet and bulk molding compound, and even nano-engineered materials. MDC engineers are experienced in designing for a range of manufacturing processes as well, such as compression molding, injection molding, rotational molding and thermoplastic flowforming.

MDC supports projects from initial customer concept through prototype and production. Through strategic partnerships, low-rate-initial-production units can be fabricated and tested.
